Sayville Honors Earth Science
§
The Center for High Pressure Research
SUNY Stony Brook

The Sayville / GEO 121, 4 credit course runs over a two year cycle. In the first (freshman) year, lecture and laboratory components of SUNY Stony Brook Physical Geology (GEO 122) are embedded within the Sayville Honors Earth Science course. During the second (sophmore) year students, who have performed well the first year, continue and complete a major research project that is carried out over the course of the academic year. During the second semester of the project, students enroll in GEO 121 at Stony Brook.

Students enrolled in this program are selected from among the top 10% of Sayville freshman/sophmores and meet the requirements of Stony Brook's "Young Scholars Program". Final grades are based on examinations specific to geology given during the Sayville Honors Earth Science course (60%), a comprehensive final examination that is reviewed and approved by Stony Brook faculty and acts as a "Challange Exam" (20%) and a research project (20%).
