Visitors to the park are welcome to cast their own dinosaur tracks. Here are some pictures of our class making some casts of the tracks. The first step is to clean off the Eubrontes track, oil it and place the metal ring around it. Plaster of Paris is then added to the ring, being careful not to spill any outside of the ring. When the cast is hardened, carefully remove the ring and the cast from the track.
Tracey and Denisse put some of the finishing touches onto one of the molds. |
Eric, Denisse and Tracey learn that making dinosaur casts can be a messy project. |
Chris proudly displays the finished casts. The positive relief cast is on the left and the negative relief cast is on the right. |
To make casts you will need:
-1/4 cup of cooking oil
-cloth rags & paper towels
-five gallon plastic bucket
-ten pounds of plaster of Paris
