Peat Bank with Fiddler Crabs at Flax Pond - July 13, 2010
Spartina alterniflora is growing on the salt peat, which has been forming since
the inlet was created in about 1803. The darker peat visible below the salt
peat and above the mudflat in the right side of the photograph is freshwater
peat formed prior to 1803.
